Privacy Policy for Section8Housing.us

Last updated: 25 August 2026

Section8Housing.us is an independently operated information site. It is not HUD and not a government agency. This policy describes what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and how to ask us to remove it.

1. What we collect now

  • Contact form submissions. The name, email address, subject and message you choose to send us, so we can read and reply.
  • Usage data. IP address, browser type, referring page and pages viewed, in server logs and analytics.
  • Cookie-consent choices. Your advertising and analytics preferences, recorded with a truncated IP address and no name attached.
  • Administrator sign-in data for the small number of people who maintain the site.

We do not ask for Social Security numbers, dates of birth, income details or bank details, and you should never send them to us. We are not able to take a housing application.

2. Features we have retired, and data we still hold

This site previously offered a public tenant directory, rental listings and public user accounts. All three have been permanently withdrawn.

  • The tenant directory previously published a first name, city, rent budget, bedroom preference and voucher status for people who created a profile, and it was reachable by search engines. It is no longer published in any form. Those pages now return a "gone" response and have been removed from our sitemap.
  • Rental listings previously published a property address and landlord contact details. Those pages have also been withdrawn.
  • Public account registration is closed, and public accounts can no longer sign in.

We have retained the underlying records rather than deleting them immediately, so that we can respond accurately to anyone who asks what was held about them and can meet our record-keeping obligations while a retention decision is made. They are not published, not indexed, and not accessible to anyone but site administrators. If you had a profile or a listing and want it deleted, please ask us using the contact form and we will action it.

3. Advertising and analytics

We use Google AdSense to fund the site and Google Analytics to understand traffic. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve and measure advertising. You can set your preferences through the Cookie Preferences link in our footer, and opt out of personalised advertising through Google Ads Settings. See also our advertising disclosure and Google's partner sites policy.

4. How we use information

  • To answer the messages you send us.
  • To keep the site working, secure and free of abuse.
  • To understand which pages are useful.
  • To display advertising, which is what pays for the site.

5. Sharing

We do not sell or rent personal data. We share it only with service providers who host the site, deliver our email and provide analytics and advertising, and with legal authorities where we are legally required to.

6. Retention

Contact messages are kept so we can maintain a record of correspondence. Server logs are kept for a limited period by our host. Retired tenant and rental records are kept unpublished pending the retention decision described in section 2. If you ask us to delete information we hold about you, we will do so unless we are required to keep it.

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data we hold, to object to how we use it, and to opt out of personalised advertising. To exercise any of these, contact us through the form below. We will respond to removal requests about the retired tenant directory and rental listings as a priority.

8. Security

The site is served over HTTPS and administrative access is restricted and authenticated. No system is perfectly secure, and we do not claim otherwise.

9. Children

This site is not intended for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

10. Third-party links

We link to housing agency and government sites. Their privacy practices are their own.

11. Contact

For any privacy question, or to ask us to remove information, use our contact form.
